What Is Squash?

This is a picture of room 7 and 8 together for a photo. This was our last day for Squash so we wanted to end the day with a group photo with Michael, standing on the left  and Phil standing on the right. Squash is a game when you hit the ball with a racket against the wall then the ball rebounds off the wall for the other player to hit.

Ratio Quiz

I have learnt that ratios compare the value of something. I also learnt that ":" can be written as "to" or as a fraction. My score reflects my understanding of ratios.

The Room At The End Of The Hall

the room at the end of the hall

The first day Lucy moved in she knew something wasn’t right.

“ Mum can you please help me unpack my clothes?” asked Lucy.
“Sure honey, right after I unpack the food in the kitchen,” answered Angela, her mum.
“Well, can you please hurry there is a lot to do here,” yelled Lucy
Lucy liked to read books, any book she finds she reads and nothing can stop her from reading it. Lucy liked to have big rooms to put bookshelves and clothes in. So she looked through the rooms and found the biggest room that she had ever seen, the room at the end of the hall. Lucy’s parents, Angela and Robert, never really looked into the history of this house, so Lucy really didn’t know what had happened in her room before they moved in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucy has a dog named Molly. The first day they moved in Molly didn’t want to enter her room. Molly had a tingly feeling shivering up and down her spine, telling her that it wasn’t safe. “OH MY GOSH MOLLY JUST COME IN!” Screamed Lucy, but Molly still didn’t want to come in. “Fine Molly, you can sleep in the living room or something”, said Lucy, then she shut the door. She started to search her room for interesting things, then she came across a diary covered in dust.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

She blew the dust off the cover and opened to read the first page. “ February 28th 1783” Lucy reads, “ My name is Amber and I’m 13, my mum just passed away and strange things have been happening in my room, not the house, my room.” Lucy was a bit scared when she realised they had the same name. In the corner of Lucy’s eye she saw a quick moving misty shadow zoom past her. Suddenly the door swung open and in came Angela, “ Are you okay? You look like you have just seen a ghost!” Angela laughed and said “ It’s nearly dinner time so get ready”. She closed the book and threw it onto her bed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Mum this dinner is beautiful!” said  Lucy.
“Thanks sweety!” answered Angela.
Just then Lucy looked at her plate of food and she saw her plate covered in blood. “AAAAHHHHH!” Lucy screamed.
“What is it?” asked Angela. Lucy pointed at her plate. “There’s nothing there,” said Angela.
“It's getting late and I think you’re imagining things. Goodnight honey.” Lucy walked back to her room. “It was blood I know what I saw,” she whispered to herself. She jumped on her bed and  realised that her diary was gone. “Huh?” Lucy asked herself and she looked around.After searching for a little while she  found the book back on her bed. “What’s going on? Stop it Molly, Leave my things alone!” Suddenly the door swung closed and locked itself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“What’s happening?” Yelled Lucy.
“I ..... I ...... wwwaaaaannnnntttt yyyoooouuuuu bbbbaaaacccckkkkk....... ccooommeeee baaaccckkkk tttooooo mmmmmeeeee hhhooonnneeeeeyyyy......” said a mysterious voice. “WHAT??!!” Screamed Lucy. Then the lights turned off and it was pitch black. “Turn the lights back on!” whispered Lucy. As soon as she said it the light turned back on. Lucy ran to her mum's room and started to cry on her lap. She looked up to her mum and saw an old lady that looked very different. She screamed and suddenly she heard the words “Wake up!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week had past and Lucy has been acting a bit crazy. “Mum there is a lady in my room, she is trying to take me!” Yelled Lucy.
“No there isn’t you just dreaming,” Said Angela. Angela was beginning to get scared about Lucy’s behaviour so she took her to see a psychiatrist. “What have you been seeing these past few weeks Lucy?”
“There was a lady in my room and she was trying to take me away from my mum and...... and she said that she was going to hurt my mum then me,” said Lucy. The doctor whispered to Angela. Angela started to cry and said “If it’s for the best.” The doctor took Lucy into a Mental Room and said “You will be staying here for a couple of weeks, so we can keep you safe for a while,” Lucy knew it was a lie.
“Mum be careful, she’s real!” Lucy screamed as her mum walked down the hallway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Angela got home and sat on the couch crying. “Come here Molly, come girl!” There was no answer. “Molly?” Angela went upstairs and saw Molly lying on the floor with a note on her body saying, “You should have listened to your daughter”, the door shut and the lights flicked off. “Please leave us alone! Tell me what’s wrong? I can help you!” said Angela. “They took her from me! Why did they take her from me?!” said the voice.
“Who? Who did they take?” Angela ran to the room to look for a clue. She found the diary. “April 21st 1783, I have been adopted by many ladies. I overheard them saying that they don’t want me because they have been haunted by a lady, my mum. I’m scared that I’m going to have no life with no one to care for me.” Angela turned around just to be stabbed in the neck by a knife. “Lucy is my daughter now, not yours.” Said the mysterious voice.

In The Summertime At Swimarama

On Saturday morning, I went with my friend Faith and her family to Swimarama, because it was her brother, Demetrius's birthday. We had packed our bags and we were ready to go, but then  we realised that there were only two cars which meant there were only eight seats. There were fourteen people so uncle Daniel drove one car with aunty Andrea in the passenger seat .Aramus, Setu and Kayne sat at the back with Payton and Demetrius sitting on Aramus and Kayne’s laps.

Chubby  Heremaia, pretty Honesty and funny Jurri quietly  sat at the back of the second car while nice Aunty Reina peacefully drove and tall Uncle Charlie was in the passenger shiny seat. There was no room left for hungry Faith, hyper Lita and I to fit so we happily asked Lita’s parents to quickly drop us off. When we got there we joyfully hopped in the pool. Fast Aramus, Lita and I had a loud water fight. We quietly asked Faith if she wanted to play but she didn't want to come inside the pool because we weren’t allowed to wear denim shorts into the pool, and she didn't want to take them off.

Lita and I started to beg Faith to come in but she didn’t want to because it was cold. Ten minutes had past before Faith came and sat in the pool with her shorts on. “Faith, you should just take your shorts off because you might get caught by the lifeguard.”
“I’ll just wait for them to tell me to take them off.” Faith said. We all laughed then we had some lunch.

In room 7 we have been learning about adding adverbs, adjectives and verbs. In this story I have added descriptive language to make it more interesting for the audience.

Super Fast Boots

This story starts on a rainy day at school and a little boy. His name is James and he has big hazel eyes, light brown hair, big white teeth, peachy skin.  He is very chubby and has apple red cheeks. James is a nice boy who is friendly, funny and sometimes scared of other people. Some of the  kids like to laugh at James and make fun of him, but others think he is nice and likes to play with him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is one thing about him that no one knows, he has boots that can make him run very fast. He likes to play games with his friends because he knows he can beat them. Physical Education had just finished and it was time to have a shower. When James came back from the shower he got changed. He started to rummage through his locker, and thats when he  realised that his boots were gone!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next day he was sitting in the park when a boy named Peter came along. “Hey James, did you lose something?” said Peter, then he started to laugh. James looked down at Peter’s feet and yelled “ GIVE ME BACK MY SHOES!”
“NO”! said Peter. James stood up, he wanted to hurt Peter but he knew that  that would be a bad idea. “Please give me back my shoes Peter.” Said James quitely.
“What are you going to do about it?” said Peter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James walked over to Peter and said “ Peter, I will race you for the boots”.
Peter laughed and said “No one can beat me when I have these ultimate fast boots!”
“Just watch me” said James. They both stood up, ready to run. “On your marks, get set, GO!” screamed James. Off they ran, both neck in neck, “How can you run so fast when you have no boots on?” asked Peter. James laughed and said
“I always have a spare pair of boots in my bag, because I knew someone would take mine.” James laughed and ran for the finish line. Peter started to catch up when suddenly Peter pushed James, “I told you I would win” said Peter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“There is no way I can win”, thought James. “I have to do something”. He looked down at his boots and saw an ultra fast button that makes him run fast. “THAT’S IT!” James stood up and clicked the button. He automatically started to run fast and sooner enough he caught up to Peter and he won the race. “NNOO I WANT THE SHOES, but I guess I have to give them back, so here.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter gave the shoes back to James. The next day ,Peter came to school and apologized to James and gave him a box. “What is it?” Asked James.
“Have a look.” said Peter. James opened the box and said “THANK YOU SO MUCH!” said James. Peter gave James a pair of boots that can make him fly, but how long will he have them before someone steals them?
Easy, Fun And Cheap!
Every Year at Saint Patrick's School, we have a day called Mission Day. We fundraise money for sick people and Orphanages. This year Angelina, Tricia and I made a game called Balloon pop. You need to throw a dart at the balloon and a note will come out saying what you have won. This is a digital advertisement for Balloon Pop that I have made myself.
Weekends Are More Fun With Friends
In the Holidays I went with my friend Faith to her Nana’s house. When we got there, we sat down and waited for our pizza to cook as it was our lunch. Suddenly, we heard a DING and the pizza was cooked and we took it out of the oven.
After we ate, we played around in the front yard and sung songs. As soon as we went inside, we saw a car pulling up to the driveway and out jumped Faith's cousins, Heremaia and Honesty.
They came inside and gave everyone a hug. We all went outside together and played hide and seek. It was fun but it got dark so we went back inside and got our mattresses out.
We were all  ready to go to bed but the little kids kept fighting about which bed they wanted to sleep on. So Faith’s Nana sorted out how they were going to sleep. Soon enough all the kids were asleep so Faith and I went to bed.
Teachers Getting Paid By Grades
Being Sober Not Drunk!
Alcohol causes people to hallucinate and their eyes will slowly start to close then soon enough they will be sleeping. Men can have about 5 cups of alcohol in 2 hours and Women have about 4 or more, but this is only for people who love to drink.
When people have too a lot to drink they act silly and do stupid things. E.g Jade starts to swear and scream at people passing by her, because she had 2 whole boxes of beer.
Your body can shut down easily from drinking too much alcohol. E.g James went to a party and drank alcohol all night non - stop. Then in the morning he doesn't wake up. Fact - the first symptom is a lot of vomiting.
There are a lot of bad consequences when you drink. E.g William is very very drunk but still wants to drive. So he decides to drive then later in the night he crashes and dies. Fact - drunk people don’t realise what they are doing when they are drunk.
The people that buy from the liquor store sometimes have fake identifications. They can use other peoples names and lie about things just so they can have alcohol. They waste time drinking when they could be spending time with their family. This is why I think alcohol should be illegal in New Zealand.
Lorenz Netball Team Vacation
On the 21st of September my Best Friend Faith and I went to Rainbow’s End. We also went with our netball team Lorenz. We couldn't wait to get into Rainbow’s End because we knew we would have a wonderful day there. We went onto the pirate ship first.
When it was at its highest we put our arms up then started laughing because of the butterflies in our tummy. The next thing we went on was the Motion Master. When we sat on the chairs and put on our glasses we started to laugh a little again. As soon as the short movie started, Faith and I started to laugh loudly because when the chairs started moving it was shaking. When the movie had finished we returned the glasses then left the big room.
Then we all ran fast to the Gold Rush. The line was starting from outside the door. Even though the line was very long we all stood there because we knew the line was only going to get longer. My partner was obviously Faith, so we sat at the front while Natasha and Lorean sat at the back. When it went up high we screamed and when it went down low we laughed. When we got to the end of the ride we waited for our coaches ( Sylvia and Waimirirangi) to come back from their ride. Then we went to the Invader.
I couldn't wait because this is my favourite ride. When we all got on we started to talking when suddenly the ride started to move. We got so excited we started to scream a little bit even though we weren’t up high. Then our ‘little’ laughs turned into huge screams. When it went up high we yelled put “LORENZ NETBALL TEAM FOR LIFE!” When the ride ended I went back into the line with Mana and Lorean. Then I saw Faith on the Power Surge with the other girls.
They were all begging me to go on but I refused because I knew that I will get a very sore Stomach. But they begged me so much that I decided to go on. I started to scream my lungs out because all we were doing was going upside down and it felt like we were going to fall out of the chairs. The girls laughed and talked and even played hand games and I dare you. I sat there screaming. when we got off I asked them how they can even go on that without screaming then they said “It’s easy because we go on it all the time. This is only your first time”
Then they laughed and they went on again but without me. We walked across the road to the mall to have McDonald's. We all had a Triple Cheeseburger with medium fries. As soon as we had finished we went back in then I went to go and buy , Faith and Jamie and I an Ice cream. As soon as we got our ice cream we walked into Cadbury Land ( the little kids playground) and saw a wizard with a bucket full of lollies. We asked him for a lolly and he said “Only if you can answer this question”.
so we said OK”. He asked us
“What are the names of Rainbow’s End mascots?”
then we said “I don’t know “ so he said to go and find out the names and then to go and find him. We found out the names but we couldn't find the man.
We all went on rides with others until it was time to go. I went with Lorean and Mana again onto the Invader for about 15 - 20 times. When it was time to go home Faith and I went with Sylvia and she dropped us off at Faith’s house. Then I stayed the rest of the weekend at her house.
Teachers Getting Paid By Grades?
There are a lot of schools in New Zealand. We all learn very hard, but some people just come to school to have fun and not for learning. My school has 8 hours of school and 1 hour for lunch and 20 minutes of morning tea.
I don't think that teachers should get paid by students' grades because if students don’t do enough work then the teachers won’t get paid much and they may not have enough money to get things they need to survive. For example, Mrs Shell doesn't have any food for the whole day because she doesn't get paid well and so she might fall asleep in class.
Teachers will get angry with how their students are working and might hurt them physically so they might take it out on their students. For example, Mrs Flowers picks up a chair and throws it at one of her students and says “You better finish this or I will punch you!”
Some teachers might get very very angry and quit their job, then the students won’t have a teacher. For example, Ms Grass gets angry because all of her pupils get very low grades so she packs her stuff and leaves the school grounds and doesn't come back the next day.
These are my reasons and examples why I think teachers shouldn't get paid by their students' grades. It's unfair for teachers to be paid by kids grades because their grades may change.
BARGAINS EVERYWHERE!
Chapter One -
This chapter is about Rod getting a new television and Sean teaches Rod how to use the remote. They find a channel called 99.
Chapter 2 -
Rod and Sean started watching channel 99 and find out that it is a shopping channel that is held by aliens! They started to scribble down the number and in the next chapter. I predict that they will order some of the interesting things.
My group for reading had to read a book called 'Bargains from Outer Space'. We all had to summarize this book then type it down onto a Google Document. We also had to predict what happens next.
Video Games Are Not For Children Under Five
A lot of kids love to play video games. They are fun to play and there are   all different kinds games to play e.g Scooby Doo, Grand Theft Auto, Sims etc.
Most of the video games out these days are rated 16 and over. If children under five play 16 and over games then they will be influenced to do all the things in this game. E.g Jacob plays Grand Theft Auto then he hears someone swearing  and do inappropriate things, then he goes outside and starts to swear and do adult things.
The things in some games can scare little children. E.g the ghost pops up from the window then at night the little boy cannot go to sleep and stares at the window all night because he is scared.
If little kids play wrestling video games then they will start to fight at school and have a bad reputation. E.g Michael plays a wrestling game then the next morning when he goes to school he starts a fight and uses all the moves he saw on his video game.
Video games can become a habit and can keep you up all night. If kids stay up then you won’t have a good sleep and will wake up late for school. E.g Grace stays up until 3:00 in the morning then gets up late and she has to rush around her room to find her things and to make her lunch. She took so long to gather her things that she misses the bus to school.
A lot of our population these days love video games and some don’t like them. I like video games but I don’t play them all the time. I think that kids should play age appropriate games but not all the time.
Looking After Others Is Very Important
These are all reasons why I think it is important to look after yourself and others
  • You have a shower because you must keep your body clean.
  • You go to church because you want God to cleanse your soul.
  • You help your mum with the cooking so it will be a very nice dinner that you have helped with.
